Scripture Lesson: Job 40:1-2

On this date in 1998, New York Yankee second baseman Chuck Knoblauch argues for an interference call at first base instead of picking up the ball while Enrique Wilson scored to break a 1-1 tie in the 12th inning of Cleveland’s 4-1 victory at New York in Game 2 of the ALCS.

Our verses from Job today, God is responding to Job’s friends and Job’s questions by reminding them that He is still in charge. Beginning in Chapter 39 and going through Chapter 41, God reminds them of His power, might and authority. God is quick to try to find out who has a problem with Him and what he does. Sometimes circumstances can cause us to question God. When bad things happen to us or to those we love we sometimes blame God or doubt His power and caring. My friends, God is always there for us and He wants what is best for us! We need to not only respect His authority, but to praise Him for all he does. Remember God is God and we aren’t!

1. Describe a time you were mad with God.

2. Read chapters 39-41 and reflect on those words.

3. Notice what happens to Job in Chapter 42.

Knoblauch did not win the argument with the umpire and a tie-breaking run scored. What blessings will we miss in life when we doubt or confront God when life is not fair?
