October 27-Worst to First
Scripture Lesson: 1 Timothy 1:15-17
On this date in 1991 in Game Seven of the “worst to first” World Series, the Minnesota Twins beat the Atlanta Braves in ten innings, 1-0. Both Atlanta and Minnesota finished last in their respective divisions the year before.
In today’s Scripture lesson, Paul is writing to his young friend Timothy. He describes to Timothy his own “worst to first” story. How Jesus came into this world to save sinners and he (Paul) was the worst. Jesus showed Paul His tremendous love and patience by saving him. Paul went from being the worst of all sinners to arguably the greatest of all missionaries in history for the Gospel. That only could happen because of Jesus’ great love and patience! Now that is a “worst to first” for the ages!
1. How does Jesus’ death and resurrection elevate us?
2. Describe God’s love for us shown through the life and death of Jesus?
3. How can our walk with Jesus be an example to others?
Paul was given a second chance by Jesus’ great love and patience and see what he was able to accomplish! God wants to accomplish equally great things through each of us.
