October 1- A Child is Born
Scripture Lesson: Isaiah 9:6-7
On this date in 1961, Roger Maris breaks the single season home run record with a home run off Boston Red Sox pitcher Tracy Stallard as the Yankees defeat the Red Sox 1-0. The humble and shy Maris is pushed out of the dugout to tip his cap to the cheering crowd by some of his teammates after the historic home run. On this date two years later a baby boy named Mark McGuire is born. McGuire goes on to break Maris’ record in 1998.
Our Scripture lesson today from the prophet Isaiah tells of the coming birth of another child, the Lord Jesus Christ. He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace. He will reign with justice and righteousness forever. Isn’t it wonderful to realize that Jesus today is still the Wonderful Counselor who will guide our lives through His spirit, the Mighty God who overcame the grave and rose from the dead, the Everlasting Father who will rule for eternity, and the Prince of Peace that enables us to find peace amidst the storms of life? Remember no matter where you are in life and whatever you are going through Jesus is just a prayer away!
1. Why is the birth of a child such a joyous occasion?
2. How have the words from Isaiah helped you today?
3. Which one of the names of Christ do you need the most today? Why?
The birth of my children was two of the happiest moments of my life. For a believer there are no greater moments than the birth of Christ and His resurrection from the dead. Celebrate both today by living a life of praise and adoration!
