November 9-Great

Scripture lesson: Psalm 48:1

Today is the birthday of Hall of Fame pitcher Bob Gibson of the St. Louis Cardinals. Gibson pitched in 251 games with a career 2.91 ERA, striking out 3117 in 3884 innings. His 1.12 ERA in 1968 was the lowest for a season since 1914. Former catcher and teammate Tim McCarver said about Gibson, “Bob Gibson is the luckiest pitcher alive. He is always pitching when the other team doesn’t score any runs.” Gibson was known for his fierce competitiveness and his greatness on the mound.

Our Scripture lesson reminds us who is really worthy of our praise. Our Lord is great and He is worthy of our praise. Gibson received a lot of praise in his brilliant career, but his greatness wanes in comparison to the greatness of our God! God’s greatness is all around us to see every day in creation. His greatness is overwhelming and should bring each of us to our knees in praise and adoration.

1.      Reflect on the greatness of God.
2.      How can we praise God with our lives, not just with our lips?
3.      Take a few minutes right now to simply praise Him for His greatness

God’s greatness is all around us, may we never take His greatness for granted without praising Him for Who He is and what He has done!
