Scripture Lesson: Proverbs 21:25-26

Today is the birthday of Washington National’s first baseman, Adam LaRoche. I had the pleasure of meeting Adam and seeing his faith in action as he was on a rehab assignment in Hickory while playing for the Pittsburgh Pirates. He took the time not only to ask me how chapel was going, but invested himself in the players. For the three nights he was in Hickory, the Crawdads players ate like kings after each game. Adam paid for the postgame spread each evening treating the players to steak and all the fixings, lasagna and salad, and chicken wings the third night. Adam’s generosity with his time and his pocketbook made a lasting impression on the entire Crawdad family.

Our Scripture lesson today reminds us of what it means to truly be blessed. We will be blessed when we give without sparing. Too many times the world tells us to hold back and not give, to keep things for ourselves. When we are generous in our giving, whether it is with our time or funds we are living righteous lives. Lives that God would indeed be proud of us to live!

1.      When it the last time you were a generous giver?
2.      How did it make you feel?
3.      What is God calling you to give today?

What a great day we can have when we practice generous giving on a daily basis!
