May 7: Our
Sins Will Find Us Out
Scripture Lesson: Numbers 32:20-24
On this date in 2003, a man wanted by the police on drug and parole
violations was arrested at the Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati. The
24-year-old man from Westwood, Ohio had has cover blown when his parole officer
saw him kissing his girlfriend on the stadium’s scoreboard during a “Kiss Cam”
In this passage from Numbers, Moses was addressing the Israelite
tribes who had been assigned land on the west side of the Jordan. Moses,
speaking for God, told them that they must also participate in the conquest on
the eastern side of the Jordan. If they chose not to do this they would be sinning
against God and their sin would “find them out,” Moses said. The two tribes
decided to do what God had commanded them to do, and joined the others in
crossing the Jordan to fight for the land. It is silly to think that we can
hide our sins. Just like the two tribes could not hide from going to battle, we
can’t hide when we disobey God. We think we might get away with sin, but our
sins will always find us out. The best thing to do is to keep the sin in our
lives confessed and repented.
a time you tried to hide a sin from God and others.
that turn out?
the best way to keep from attempting to hide sin in our lives?
We cannot hide our sin from God, sooner or later our sins will come
out unless we confess them and repent from them.
