March 8: Amazing

Scripture Lesson: Matthew 9:27-34

On this date in 1966, in a pre-game ceremony just prior to an intra-squad contest in St. Petersburg, the Mets announced that former manager Casey Stengel had been elected to the Hall of Fame. The 75-year-old Stengel benefited from a new rule that makes any manager, umpire, or executive past the age of 65 eligible to be elected the Hall just six months after retiring, bypassing the traditional five year wait required for players. Stengel coined the phrase,” The Amazing Mets.” In the Stengel years, the Mets did some amazingly inept things on the diamond!

Today’s Scripture lesson is about just one of the amazing days of Jesus’ earthly ministry. First, Jesus healed two blind men who showed faith in his ability to heal them. Jesus touched their eyes, healed them, and told them to keep quiet about what had happened. They could not keep silent, but went out and spread the word all over the region. A little later, a mute man thought to be possessed by demons was brought to Him. Once again, Jesus healed the man, who immediately started speaking! What an amazing day in which Jesus brought three men to a new life of health and wholeness. Our Lord is truly amazing!

  1. What is something amazing that has happened to you?

  2. Name another amazing thing Jesus did in His ministry.

  3. Reflect for a few moments on the amazing love Jesus has for you.

Healing the sick is an amazing thing, wouldn’t you say? Today, open the eyes of your heart to see the amazing love Christ has for you and me!
