29: Great Career
Scripture Lesson: Psalm 31:23-24
Today is the birthday of Denton True Young, who earned the nickname
“Cy” for his cyclone-like pitching motion. Young would go on to win and lose
more games than anyone in Major League history with a record of 511-316 and a
career ERA of 2.63 over a 22-year career. Young would also win 20 or more games
15 times, and top the 30-win mark five times. The “Pitcher of the Year” award
in both leagues is named for him. I would say he had a pretty great career.
The Psalmist gives advice on how to have a great career as a
believer. In our Scripture lesson today, he says we must love the Lord, be
strong, and take heart because our hope is in Him. If we can truly master those
things, God will be proud of the way we represent Him. When we love Him, we
want the best for Him, so we will serve Him even better! When we hope in Him,
we will have the strength to withstand whatever this world brings to us. God
never promised that following Him would be easy, but He promised He would
always be there for us! Love Him, serve Him, and trust Him.
would you rate your “career” as a Christian?
love the most important ingredient for a successful walk with God?
you need to do to get your walk with God on the right track?
God wants us to live happy and productive lives for Him and the
Psalmist gives us the key!
