March 26: Whose Advice Do We Take?

Scripture Lesson: Psalm 1:1-3

On this date in 1937, Yankee great Joe Dimaggio, on the advice of Ty Cobb, the all-time hits leader at the time, reduced the weight of his bat from 40 ounces to 36 ounces. It was good advice, for in 1937 Dimaggio hit 46 home runs, drove in 167 runs, scored 151 runs, got 215 hits, and ended the year hitting .346.

Psalm 1 is one of those Scripture passages that paint for us a great picture. We are blessed when we do not listen to the wicked and hang around with sinners or sit in the seat of mockers. We are blessed when our delight is in the Word of God and we spend time meditating on the Word. We become like a tree planted by water, producing fruit and being vital as we grow. Everything we do will prosper. We need to be careful who we listen to, especially in our walk with God. It is so important for us to seek God’s Word for guidance as we strive to be that growing, fruit producing, and prospering believer.

  1. Who do you seek advice from in living for God?

  2. Why is it important to pick your friends wisely?

  3. How much time a week do we spend studying God’s Word?

When you want to be a better hitter, listen to one of the best. When you want to be a better believer, study His Word!

The new tenants are often in a month-to-month lease at their old place after their lease runs out, so often it's not that big a deal if their move-in is deelayd because you're not out yet.You could use the conservative April 1 date and just plan to eat a mortgage payment. Might be worth it to reduce your stress level.I've had a ton of success listing rentals onso I recommend trying there. There are online credit/criminal background check places. The one I use isCheck if your city or region has a Multihousing Association that can be a source of legal forms and valuable general information. The website for Minnesota's is here, for example: Lastly you could read Property Management for Dummies to learn a lot of the basics of leasing. (You may even decide it'd be better to hire property management than do it yourself.)Particularly with single family homes, it takes longer to rent because you're probably dealing with families. So since Craigslist costs nothing, and neither does a yard sign, might as well start advertising now!
