Scripture Lesson: Philippians 4:13
On this date in 1945, Pete Gray was signed to play for the St.
Louis Browns. Gray, who had lost an arm in a hunting accident, played in 77
games for the Browns that year, batting and throwing with only one arm. Gray had
trouble checking his one-armed swing on curve balls, and hit only .218. Still,
he was an inspirational example for many returning disabled veterans from the
war. Gray visited VA hospitals, encouraging injured vets to believe that they
too could lead a productive life.
This verse is one of my very favorites in all Scripture. “I can do
everything through him who gives me strength.” The world tells us there are
things we can’t do – like play baseball with one arm. Jesus is there to help us
to accomplish what the world might say would be impossible. It is through Him
and for Him we can accomplish great things for His Kingdom. When God calls us
to do something for Him, He will give us what we need to do the job!
does God want you to do for Him?
Will we put
our total faith and trust in Him?
does Paul say we can do?
Everything is possible through Him who gives us strength, praise be
