July 2: Remembering Greatness
Scripture Lesson: 1 Chronicles 16:8-12
This date in 1963 saw one of the greatest pitching duels in baseball histor. Future Hall of Famers Juan Marichal of the Giants and Warren Spahn of the Braves both hurled 15 scoreless innings. Finally, Willie Mays ended the marathon game with a home run in the bottom of the 16th inning, giving the Giants a 1-0 victory over the Braves.
In today’s text, King David had just brought the Ark of the Covenant to Jerusalem. Afterward, he was so overcome by God’s greatness and all God had done for Israel and for him that he burst forth into song. David’s example calls us today to remember God’s greatness and all He has done for each of us. We are to thank Him and tell of what He has done for us. We need to tell those around us all God has done. We are reminded to look to the Lord and His strength and to seek His face always. Remembering God’s greatness and goodness to us is a cause to thank Him and celebrate His Almighty Awesomeness!
Make a list of things that God has done for you.
How does that list make you feel?
How can you share with others what God has done for you?
Would you have liked to see the greatness of those two Hall of Fame pitchers in that game? Just look around today and see the greatness of God and thank Him for all He has done!
