Blessings Come in Unexpected Ways

Blessings Come in Unexpected Ways

In early June I had the pleasure of spending time with our Summer Collegiate Team, the Niagara Power, which is run by FCA Staff person Cal Kern. Cal does an outstanding job in providing opportunities for the Power Players and Coaches to not only grow in the game of baseball, but more importantly to grow in their walk with Christ. His serving spirit provides these young men with a season they will never forget for a number of reasons. One such event occurred on the road trip I went with them on and surprised even Cal.

After a late afternoon game in Geneva, NY, we bused to Rome, NY to spend the night at the Delta Christian Conference Center. As we arrived the staff had prepared a late dinner for us and the homemade pizza was great. The only group on campus besides our team was a Senior Adult Conference. The Director came up to Cal and said the Senior Adults wanted to do something for the team the next morning. All of us thought, they wanted to do some kind of program for us. We could not have been more wrong. The Senior Adults had been divided during their retreat into prayer groups. They wanted to divide our players and coaches up among their prayer groups and pray for them and the team.

When they began to pray for us, it was one of the most humbling and rewarding experiences I have ever been a part of in all my years of ministry! These great prayer warriors poured out their hearts to God mentioning each player and coach by name in their group. They implored God to keep them safe and to grant them success. God was so close in that room one could almost reach out and touch Him through those loving prayers. At the close of the prayer time there was a lot of hugs and heart-felt appreciation by the Power. They decided on the spot to take up an offering for the team and took up $191.00 which was used for a team meal.

What those wonderful Senior Adults gave to a group of young men was worth far more than the $191.00. They gave of themselves to pray for us and we left not only with a sense of God’s Presence, but also with the Christian love of some great Prayer Warriors! I think also the Power have picked up a group of new fans!

One never knows when God is going to do something that rocks your world with such a rich blessing. We thought we were going to bless the Senior Adults by hanging out with them, but praise God, He had other plans.
Since that time I have looked for opportunities to be such a blessing to others. How about you today….ready to be used by God to bring down His blessings from heaven?

Father God, we lift up Your Workers, serving You, going forarwd in Your Name. Lord, we pray that You send the Holy Spirit to surround this team with a hedge of protection. We pray that an aura of good will go forarwd from the team and cause all who meet them, to greet them with openess and welcome and a receiving spirit. Father we pray that everywhere these men go in Your Holy Name, they be met and welcomed and there needs attended to and in return that they feed the need these people have for more than the little that this world provides them. We know Lord that this trip will change the lives of those who are contacted by the team as well as the members themselves, all to Your Glory. Lord we pray for Your Blessings on them and their safe return. In Jesus name, Amen.
