Scripture Lesson: Matthew 6:25-34

On this date in 1970 during the 5th inning of the second game of a doubleheader against the Angels, Tony Horton unexpectedly takes himself out of the lineup. The game will prove to be his last in the Major Leagues as a deep slump and constant harassment from the Cleveland fans takes a personal toll on the promising 25 year old first baseman.

Today’s Scripture lesson reminds us of the folly of worry. Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount addresses the problem of worry for a believer. If God takes care of the birds of the air, he will take care of each of us. Jesus even asks the question, “Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?” The key to beating worry is found in verse 33. “Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness and all these things will be given to you as well.” When we worry we are saying to God we don’t believe you can act on our behalf. Often times we pray and ask God for His help and just as soon as we say amen, we pick the burden right back up. Worry plain and simple is an issue of faith.

1. Why is it so easy to worry?

2. Why is worry NOT from God?

3. Why is worry a faith issue?

When we worry we tell God that He can’t help the situation. Give Him our cares and concerns, just believe!
