Scripture Lesson: Mark 16:9-14

On this date in 1977 in an 8-2 victory at Yankee stadium, Texas Rangers players Bump Wills and Toby Harrah hit inside-the–park home runs on consecutive pitches. It is the only time in baseball history that this feat has been accomplished.

Mark tells us about another history making event when Jesus appears to a series of people after the resurrection and before his ascension into heaven. From Mary to the men on the road to Emmaus and finally the disciples, Jesus appeared to them after He rose from the dead. The disciples did not believe Mary or the two men when they said they saw Jesus. He rebuked the 11 for their lack of faith and their refusal to believe those who had seen Him.

1. Do you think you would have believed Mary and the men when they said they saw Jesus? Why or why not?

2. Why was it so hard for the 11 to believe?

3. How do you show the world you believe Jesus lives?

Jesus told the disciples and the gathered believers before ascending into heaven to go preach the Good News, and make disciples. The same call is for us today!
